Attacq Unveils Izinga Transportation Hub at Mall of Africa to Enhance Commuter Safety and Accessibility

JOHANNESBURG, 5 March 2025 – Attacq Limited has officially unveiled the Izinga Transportation Hub at Mall of Africa, a new integrated public transport facility designed to enhance commuter safety, accessibility and operational efficiency within one of Gauteng’s busiest retail and business precincts.

Developed in partnership with key public stakeholders, the hub marks an important milestone in strengthening transport infrastructure serving the Midrand node. The facility is expected to improve the daily commuting experience for thousands of passengers travelling to and from the Mall of Africa and the Waterfall City precinct while supporting more organised and efficient transport operations.

Designed to improve commuter safety, operational efficiency, and the overall stakeholder experience, the hub integrates public transport and on-demand delivery services (such as Checkers Sixty60). The hub features clear wayfinding, structured traffic flow, passenger seating, ablution facilities and dedicated driver areas equipped with cellphone charging stations. The result is a modern facility that responds to the realities of urban mobility while creating a space defined by dignity, efficiency and comfort.

Hendrick Nomazele, Waterfall City Operations Manager at Attacq Limited, said the development reflects Attacq’s commitment to building inclusive and accessible precincts that support both economic activity and the daily needs of communities.

“At Attacq, we believe successful precincts are built on infrastructure that supports the people who live, work and visit these spaces every day. The Izinga Transportation Hub is an important step in improving accessibility and enhancing the commuter experience at Mall of Africa, while supporting safer and more organised mobility within the broader Waterfall City precinct,” said Nomazele.

Guests attending the launch were welcomed by vibrant Pantsula dancers ahead of a formal programme that highlighted the importance of safe and well-managed public transport facilities for commuters, operators and the broader community. The event underscored the shared commitment between Attacq, transport stakeholders and public authorities to create a more organised, reliable and dignified commuting environment.

Opening the programme, Nomazele welcomed guests and outlined the vision for the Izinga Transportation Hub.

“The Izinga Transportation Hub represents what can be achieved when property developers, transport operators and public authorities work together with a shared goal. Our aim is to provide a safe, clean and well-managed facility that improves the daily commuting experience for passengers while supporting the operators who serve this precinct,” he added.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by members of the Attacq Development Team together with Hendrick Nomazele, Mgazi Ntshangase and JMPD Director of Operations Angie Mokase, marking the formal opening of the facility and symbolising the collaborative partnership between Attacq, transport stakeholders and public authorities.

Strategically located adjacent to Mall of Africa, the Izinga Transportation Hub will serve as a centralised node for public transport activity within the precinct. By providing a structured and well-managed transport environment, the hub aims to enhance safety, accessibility and operational efficiency while supporting the continued economic vibrancy and connectivity of the surrounding area.
